Gut Check

It's time to check in and evaluate how we are doing.  Sometimes life gets hectic and we lose track of what is important and allow little (or big) exceptions to become the rule.  Lets take a few moments right now and consider where we are and where we want to be.

Please spend this weekend taking stock of where you are.  This should include logging your food, sleep and stress levels.  It would also be a great idea to read It Starts with Food.  Take a few moments for yourself and write down your observations and goals.  We will use these next week as we ramp up for the Whole30 Challenge.

Body Fat Testing

Many of you expressed interest in getting your body fat tested.  Awesome! We will be hosting Fitness Wave at our Santa Clara and Mountain View locations next week.  We are in the process of determining price, dates and times.  We should have it all squared away by the weekend.  Watch the blog for details on how to sign up.

Whole30 Challenge

We will be conducting a Whole30 Challenge during the month of August.  This will be very similar to the Paleo Challenge we did in January.  The main difference is that it will not be a contest but rather a chance to support each other as we recharge and work towards optimal gene expression.  What is a Whole30 Challenge you ask? Read on for more details (as found on the Whole9 website).

What is the Whole30®?

Certain food groups (like sugar, grains, dairy and legumes) could be having a negative impact on your health and fitness without you even realizing it. Are your energy levels inconsistent or non-existent? Do you have aches and pains that can’t be explained by over-use or injury? Are you having a hard time losing weight no matter how hard you try? Do you have some sort of condition (like skin issues, digestive ailments, seasonal allergies or fertility issues) that medication hasn’t helped? These symptoms may be directly related to the foods you eat – even the “healthy” stuff. So how do you know if (and how) these foods are affecting you?

Strip them from your diet completely. Cut out all the psychologically unhealthy, hormone-unbalancing, gut-disrupting, inflammatory food groups for a full 30 days. Let your body heal and recover from whatever effects those foods may be causing. Push the “reset” button with your metabolism, systemic inflammation, and the downstream effects of the food choices you’ve been making. Learn once and for all how the foods you’ve been eating are actually affecting your day to day life, and your long term health. The most important reason to keep reading?

This will change your life.
We cannot possibly put enough emphasis on this simple fact – the next 30 days will change your life. It will change the way you think about food, it will change your tastes, it will change your habits and your cravings. It could, quite possibly, change the emotional relationship you have with food, and with your body. It has the potential to change the way you eat for the rest of your life. We know this because we did it, and tens of thousands of people have done it since, and it changed our lives (and their lives) in a very permanent fashion. (Need convincing? Just read some of our stunning testimonials.)

  1. I would definitely be interested in a 30-day paleo/primal challenge like the one we did in January. Is this going to be the same/similar?

Also +1 for the body fat testing in August.

  2. This couldn't be more well-timed [for me]! I am just finishing "It Starts With Food" and can recommend it as a great read. After reading Robb Wolf's Paleo Solution I was feeling pretty smart, and found that It Starts With Food only added to my knowledge. And, yes, to the Whole30 challenge as I was going to jump on the bandwagon with Dallas & Melissa's challenge beginning on Aug 1 anyway. What better way to start than with new friends at NorCal Crossfit!!

  3. Primal Body Primal Mind by Nora Gedgaudus; Loren Cordain's The Paleo Answer; and Mark Sisson's books are also about Paleo/Primal and I got different useful things from those three books, including Robb's Paleo Solution. Each book uses different examples/studies, testimonials, and some things are mentioned in only one book. They're all worth reading and can be requested through the San Jose Public Library, which is where I got access to the books.
